On Friday I attended the NNEAHE conference
at the Cliff House in Ogunquit, Maine. I was able to learn a lot from attending
the event, listening to speakers, and networking. One thing that stood out to
me was the presentation by Dr. Josh Luke. His presentation was titled Care
Coordination: Acute Hospital Becoming a Preferred Provider in the Narrow
Network. Dr. Luke was able to give so much valuable insight on healthcare that
he has learned through his successful career. Aside from the beautiful venue and
interesting speakers, something that I enjoyed was learning about the career
paths of the professionals at this event.
I always enjoy learning about people’s career
paths. One of the most interesting things about Dr. Luke’s talk for me was learning about how he got
involved in healthcare. Dr. Luke started out as a marketing agent for
professional athletes, but quickly became uninterested and felt unfulfilled.
His elderly grandmother then inspired him to get involved in healthcare. He
started a very successful career and even became a CEO at age 32. It was
inspiring to hear that his connection with his grandmother sparked a career
change.
My peers and I also participated in networking at this
event which was very beneficial. Through networking I was also able to learn
about the career paths of these healthcare executives. We spoke to one man who
was a UNH alumni. He told us all about his experience at UNH being an English major
and eventually realizing after college that he wanted to work in healthcare and
worked his way up to being a successful executive.
This experience taught me that no
matter your background, previous jobs, college degree, etc, if you want to be
successful it will happen.
So glad you came and interacted with the executives. Life happens and however much you think you know where you are headed, you almost always end up somewhere else.
