ACA Confusion

Today in the news I read about some confusion surrounding ACA and signing up for coverage. According to CNBC's article "Many Obamacare shoppers don't know sign-up deadline in most states  is Friday," there are currently 3 major misconceptions about the ACA:

  •       "More than half of the Obamacare customers of the eHealth online brokerage do not know that Friday is the deadline for signing up in 41 states."
  •       "There is also widespread confusion about whether the Affordable Care Act remains the law, which it does."
  •       "Experts predict that Obamacare enrollment for 2018 plans nationally will fail to match the level reached in 2017."

These are all shocking statistics because this could severely impact who gets healthcare coverage. In my opinion, all of these facts need to be communicated with the public better. I think that health management professionals and other people in the healthcare field need to take initiative to tell people that they need to sign up for coverage.

Another shocking fact is that 56% of people who are shopping for coverage on the individual market do not know of the deadline this Friday. Because of this levels of uninsured will surely drop. This is something that could be fixed with there was a bigger focus on awareness.

When working in health management in the future we need to keep in mind all of the things that effect patients getting seen by providers and a big example of that is insurance.
