Last month at the NNEAHE Conference we all received a copy of the book, "Ex-Acute" by our speaker, Josh Luke. This book says on the cover that it explains what's wrong with American Healthcare and the books is "What every American needs to know." I have started to read this book to gain a deeper understanding of what needs to be fixed in our healthcare system. From the small amount that I have read so far, I have learned some interesting and shocking facts.
One of the most interesting things I have seen so far is a chart comparing quota-based physicians to non-quota-based physicians. The following photos are straight from Josh Luke's book, "Ex-Acute."

From these charts I have learned that quota-based physicians make significantly more money than non-quota-based physicians. The difference between these two types of physicians is basically where they intend to send their patients after they are done meeting/ treating with them. Quota-based physicians attempt to transfer their patients into long term care facilities or rehab facilities to meet quotas while non-quota-based physicians have the goal of "doing the right thing" and getting their patients home after a hospital visit as soon as possible. This really shows that money rules the healthcare system. Reading this in the book was eye opening to me and I'm looking forward to learning more as I keep reading this book.
